Asunción – Caacupé – Cataratas del Iguacu
Day 1: Asunción Arrival at the Asunción Airport and transport to the Hotel. Take an afternoon tour and explore the city of Asunción - a city with a million inhabitants and a rather down to earth, original, and provincial feeling instead of a hectic pace. Visit the old train station which boasts the oldest railway in South America (no longer in service), the Panteón, the Government Palace and stroll down the main street „Calle Palma“ with us. Experience a typical South America market atmosphere at the Pettirossi Market and take advantage of the inexpensive shopping.
Day 2: Asunción – Foz do Iguacu Our current program takes you to the eastern part of the country where we visit Caacupe, a religious capital of the country. Each year on the 8th of December, hundreds of thousands of pilgrims descend upon the basilica in the center of the city. After visiting the church we will drive to Ciudad del Este. Here we will start a tour of the highlights of the city. First is Itaipu- the largest hydroelectric power plant in the world. A documentary will be show about the origins of the giant plant. Then we will take a bus to the 8 km wide dam, crossing the „bridge of friendship as we leave Paraguay. Hotels in Brazil. Optional evening: Visit the Churrasqueria Rafain + Show (closed Sunday)
Day 3: Foz do Iguacu In the morning, we will visit the Brazilian side of one of the largest waterfalls in the world. The waterfall stands 2700 meters wide, and the water falls 80 meters, creating quite the spectacle. The mist causes a rainbow which stretches over the falls, creating a natural phenomenon not to be missed.
